About This Game

CRIMSON METAL

Is an experimental game made with FPS Creator that's trying to bring back the atmosphere of old school, hardcore, dynamic, brutal, and challenging game experiences from early 90's.

Story

Four elite counter-terrorism squads storm secret cyborg and biological-warfare weapon production facilities. But none of the personnel, chief commander or the place for cyborg production are identified. All four squads find themselves in a death trap without any chance of getting out or contacting the outside world.

As Adam Crimson, sole survivor of the Omega squad, you will go through chain of psychological and physical trials, which together are above ordinary person’ power.

Scores of traps, hundreds of cyborgs, thousands of fierce mutants will stand on your way to freedom.

  Controls are terrible, gameplay is meh, and the overall sound, art, and design of the game sucks. Definetly not worth any money, and worth even less time.. Posting my refund request here:
  
  Game isn't actually, or rather doesn't feel fast paced or old school, ai has pinpoint hitscan accuracy which normally wouldn't be a problem, many old school shooters like doom have this, except for the fact that you don't have any accuracy, far from it. You have to aim down the sights which slows down your movement, takes up half the screen and in general feels like a pain to do
  
  If you intend to hip fire good luck with that, because your accuracy without it is a joke, and don't forget you only have a few seconds to do it before the enemies will kill you. You can't even run and run with the machine gun!
  
  Speaking of running, you have to hold down shift to sprint! You can hold it down for as long as you want, there's no penalty for doing it either, what's the point? Why not just have yourself set to always run? I wanna sprint automatically and shoot enemies without having to aim down the sights. Just a little nitpick.
  
  The shooting itself is subpar, there's no ragdoll physics, no enemies flinching when attacking and no gore, just some pixel blood sprays and a death animation that plays with it when you kill an enemy, no fun in that.
  
  Graphics are nice though, I really do like the choice of weapon designs used, they look clean and pretty.
  
  I could forgive the lack of options, the terrible music, the extremely linear level design but when the gameplay is held back by such things, thats when you have a bad game.. If you truly enjoy "old school" shooters than this game is a must play. Made with an older game engine, the developer truly
  pull off a mighty feat. Good Ol'fashion run & gun shooter. Nice fast pace kept my interest. Great sound track, good atmosphere
  settings, not to sparse or cluttered, just right. For those of you how remember and enjoyed those early fps games from the mid 90's, then this one's for you. The dev. has most certainly put a lot of love, labor and thought into this and it shows.
  Run, gun, find ammo & health and just stay alive till the end. What more could you ask for in a shooter game?
  Two thumbs up !!!. wow.
  
  -no key rebind (who the actual ♥♥♥♥ made the decission to put melee on [ALT] with no chance to remap it?) no matter who it was, it must be a very sick person
  
  -no options at all (no graphic, sound, whatever else options)
  
  -FOV is probably the worst in human computer gaming history. FOV is like u ate a bunch of psychodelic mushrooms and someone stretched a 4:3 game to 16:9
  
  -dead enemy bodies disappear before even hitting the ground
  
  
  instead of pumping out new free episodes for the game, invest the development time for a menu, key remappiing and for ♥♥♥♥ sake, fix the FOV.. WOW! This game exceeded all of my expectations. When I bought this game, I was expecting it to be a pile of s.h.i.t. Not the case. This is a pile of s.h.i..t and p.i.s.s. mixed into a smoothie. Completely worth 50 cents if you enjoy that sensation of sitting on the toilet and pushing so hard you see static.. This was an old review for the original game; I have yet to buy Crimson Metal Redux)
  
  PROS:
  -The guns have some pretty decent kick to them.
  
  -Health kits and ammo are plentiful.
  
  -You run ridiculously fast.
  
  
  CONS:
  -The game looks like a mod for Quake 2, which makes the hyper-realistic viewmodel all the more jarring to look at.
  
  -Despite what I said about health kits and ammunition being plentiful in this game, the game is extremely difficult. Although you start with 1,000 health, the enemies in the first room can absolutely pulverize you.
  
  -The environments are way too dark.
  
  -Your FOV is way too high by default.
  
  -If you don't save, then it's back to square one if you die.
  
  -There's no quicksave function. You have to go to the pause menu, click "Save Game", and click "Load Game" to load up that save. Even then, it takes, like, 5 minutes.
  
  - You can't customize your controls.
  
  - The game is horribly optimized.. This game certainly has potential but it fails to provide an entertaining experience for me.
  Pros:
  Enemies are challenging
  Cons:
  Same sfx used for several different weapons (IE the starting rifle and pistol sound identical)
  No options to alter video, audio or any aspect of the game
  Collision between player and the environment is incredibly buggy
  -Pressed space while swimming and was left immobile
  -Seemed to slide down stairs if I was not moving up them
  -Found it easy to become stuck in things like elevators
  Numerous crashes during gameplay
  
  Again the idea behind this game is great; a vanilla old school shooter akin to Doom, Serious Sam etc. But the game just seems unpolished and half♥♥♥♥♥♥♥to the point where I feel ripped off despite having only spent 4.68 on the game.. I recommend this game for the OST if nothing else. It's a good mix of heavy industrial tracks at various paces, at a reasonable price. It reminds me a bit of Zynthetic's work for Killing Floor when it was still a mod for UT2003/4.
  
  "Crimson Metal" - it's a perfect name for a no holds barred, visceral, brutal skill-based FPS. Unfortunately, it misses the mark by a wide margin, but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed.
  
  Before reading the rest of the review, please know that there were several moments in the game where my heart rate jumped. The level design is good, and secrets are clever (remember, press T to pick up a crate). You can save anywhere, and you will need to because it is very easy to die very quickly. The fact that the developer still supports it nearly a year after release by releasing Episodes as free DLC is worth mentioning. There is a way to enable dual weapons, and this effectively turns you into a murder machine for as long as you have ammo (not long).
  
  I played through the fourth level in Ep1, finished the 1st level in Ep2 and Ep3. My experience is that the graphics are mostly horrible (I had to go back and play Firestarter (2004) to get my bearings back), the sound effects, while good sounding, have no distance degradation or direction. The engine (rumored to be FPS Maker) is rife with bugs, with most enemies instantly disappearing upon death, some animating into corpses, large crates being sent into and beyond ceilings, and yourself, if a movable object is between you and an enemy, the enemy can push you through a wall into oblivion.
  
  The loading screen hints look like poorly compressed jpgs. As many have mentioned, there are no options you can adjust to improve your experience. There are no stats at level completion. There are no achievements (I see this as a good thing).
  
  Pick it up for the soundtrack. Play it if you are willing to push through the unignorable engine and developer coding limitations to find a game that's reasonably enjoyable.. Do keep in mind, I'll be happy to change this review if the game is improved.
  
  Its not good right now. Its got numerous collision bugs, such as getting stuck in vents or even on a random wall.
  The gun models are decent but pixelated, you cant pick up enemy weapons, you can't rebind controls, there are 0 graphics options too!
  
  I like the idea of this game but it's a cheap imitation of old doom with none of the polish.
  
  On a positive note the game has great music.
